The Group Auditing Experience

The organizational which JSS is auditing is relatively happy and healthy. My personal goal for this  organization is to create a distinctly healthy and harmonious environment out of  this somewhat dysfunctional  one.
The organization is blessed with staff who are kind, caring and largely fun-loving and I will feel  fulfilled if as an outcome of our council, line staff feels valued and critical to the success of the organization, not only for their helpfulness in serving the customers, but also for their contribution as stakeholders in the organization.

Currently, staff feel expendable and excluded from problem solving and visioning and they look to their “superiors” for directives. There is no formal outlet for their creativity and it has been stated many times, that recommendations are not welcomed from non-members of the uppermost hierarchy in the organization.

I feel empathy  for my organization, after primary interviews; there is evidently underlying hurt, and as such, there will not be fulfillment of the organization’s full potential until this problem is attended to and the organization is cared to good health.
My first order of business then, is to request a  copy of the company's mission statement, goals and objectives. With this in hand, JSS can formulate strategies which the organization can employ to achieve their goals and objectives.

Group auditing is Fulfilling!

My auditing group is JSS Audit Consultancy Group and is comprised of the invincible Shauna-Kay, the incomparable, Shakira and myself. We totally enjoy the auditing experience and plan to continue as auditors after Gerry Mac's preparation of us.
Here we are soaked to the bones as we make our way to conduct our audit. We are on the road standing 7 ft. tall at a taxi stand, across from the organization we are heading to...so near to auditing, yet so far away!

Cognitive Dissonance

I feel compelled to blog about one of the most common elements of dysfunctional communication - Cognitive Dissonance. In my media and communication specialization, we need fast and powerful Mac computers to support the large volume of  specialized software we use in multimedia . The department  acquires new, more powerful computers and instead of passing them on to Mutimedia students, they are to be issued to other specialization who would be more than adequately covered with Multimedia's old computers. We hear that" this is our place to shine" , but we're not feeling the love right  now.

c,mon upgrade us!!

The Four Main Stages of a Working Team -The leaning Tower of 'Pizza'

The Main Stages of a Working Team as experienced in the 'Leaning Tower of Pizza 'exercise, are:
1. Forming-where there was low intimacy, low contact. The group was still working as individuals without an organized focus.
2. Storming- There was high conflict, creativity and risk,  as leaders and innovators emerged.
3 Norming - Better managed group with established team work. There was relative calm and reduced conflict.
4. Performing - There was silence in this work phase as we focused on achieving the common goal, with the objective of building  the taller leaning "Tower of Pizza", which did not collapse prematurely!
I won't say which group won, but suffice it to say that the better team enjoyed the Cupcakes!

The real leaning tower of Pisa. We did a good replication using newspapers, tables, chairs, school bags, student, etc.
Thanks  Gerry Mac. You promised us cupcakes and you over- delivered!
